Jobs for Mississippi Graduates

JMG is an affiliate program of the national program Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) which is the largest, most consistently applied model of school-to-work transitions for at-risk and disadvantaged youth.  The JMG program at Meridian High School is a multi-year program with the primary objective as having the students to stay in school through graduation and be placed in an entry-level job leading to a career and/or pursuing a postsecondary education. The program includes a 12-month, post graduation follow up of seniors. The program also requires community service as well as the opportunity to earn a ServSafe Food Handler certificate which will enable students in the job market an advantage in the restaurant industry.  JMG lends itself to activity-based classroom instruction in order to allow the students to engage and learn hands on skills.

To date, JMG at Meridian High School has graduates attending Meridian Community College, East Mississippi Community College on scholarship, Lincoln College on scholarship, and they are working and attending school. The JMG program at Meridian High School includes, not completely inclusive, resume writing, how to properly fill out a job application, interview skills, interview dress attire, induction and installation of officers to the Career Association, and State Competition held each year in Jackson, Mississippi. The program has traveled to East Mississippi Community College, Specialty Roll, and had various speakers on topics such as college admissions, goal setting, positive attitudes, and the importance of education.

Jobs for Mississippi Graduates at Meridian High School is looking forward to expanding and bringing several activities to the high school as well as the district.
