“Museum on Wheels” Traveling Exhibit Hosted at Poplar Springs Elementary

Poplar Springs Elementary School is proud to be the first school in the Meridian area to welcome “Museum on Wheels – A Lesson in Visual Arts.”

The “Museum on Wheels” is a visual arts exhibit with replicas of contemporary and classic artwork. The goal of this exhibit is to bring communities together through the power of visual art and to serve as an educational tool for students.

The exhibit will run from August 13-September 7, 2012 at Poplar Springs Elementary School.

“Even in communities that are rich with cultural organizations, this exhibit provides a free and accessible opportunity for students to learn about the elements of visual arts and make connections to the school curriculum, artistic endeavors as well as current exhibits in the community,” said Malcolm White, Executive Director of the MS Arts Commission.

Poplar Springs Principal LaVonda Germany said, “We are excited to have this traveling exhibit as a learning tool for our students and teachers. This exhibit will be integrated into the curriculum as teachers use the visual arts to teach math, science, social studies and language arts.”

The MS Arts Commission is a state agency, funded by the MS Legislature, the National Endowment of the Arts, The Wallace Foundation, The Phil Hardin Foundation, Blue Cross Blue Shield of MS Foundation, Donna and Jim Barksdale, and other private sources. MAC is the official grants-making agency for the arts in MS. The agency serves as an active supporter and promoter of the arts in community life and arts in education.
