CRESTWOOD FOURTH GRADERS PARTICIPATE IN

14TH ANNUAL MISSISSIPPI SINGS CONCERT!

The fourth graders of Crestwood Elementary were privileged to participate in the 14th Annual Mississippi Sings event in Jackson at Thalia Mara Hall on October 23, 2012. This event is sponsored by the Mississippi Music Educators Association and the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. The theme this year was Blues, Bluegrass, ‘N More: Mississippi Sights and Sounds.

They were introduced to the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Mr. Crafton Beck as well as a wonderful performance by the Mississippi Ballet. Supreme Court Justice Jess Dickinson shared with the students an excellent performance on the hammered dulcimer.

Ms. Tamela King, music teacher for Crestwood, prepared the students for several weeks by teaching several songs as part of an interactive sing along with the orchestra. This event enhances the fourth gradeMississippisocial studies curriculum as well as providing exposure to various genres of music and different musical artists. Ms. King is also working with the classroom teachers on follow-up activities infusing the arts with language and writing, social studies, and mathematics lessons.
