Statewide Elementary Honor Choir

Elementary students from our district recently auditioned in Madison against other fifth and sixth grade students from across the state for a spot in the statewide Elementary Honor Choir. For the audition, a panel of three adjudicators rated the students on memory of words, tonal memory, intonation, accuracy of pitch and rhythm, vocal quality, musicality, diction, and posture.

The elementary students selected from our district are Monica Hampton (Parkview Elementary), Josie Hanegan (Poplar Springs Elementary), and Caleb Fields (Poplar Springs Elementary).

Monica, a fifth grade student at Parkview Elementary, is the daughter of Teresa Hampton. She is a member of Word of Faith Christian Center where she is involved in the choir and dance groups. She enjoys reading and drawing. Monica's music teacher is Michelle Cook.

Caleb, a fifth grade student at Poplar Springs Elementary, is the son of Marty and Debbie Fields. He attends First Presbyterian Church. He is in the Explore program, and he is a member of PANDAmonium, the 5th grade choir at PSE. He enjoys football, baseball, soccer, and tennis. Caleb’s music teacher is Dr. Lorrie Stringer.

Josie, a fifth grade student at Poplar Springs Elementary, is the daughter of Dr. Scott and Amanda Hanegan. She is an active member of Central United Methodist Church and the Club 412 Pre-teen ministry. At Poplar Springs, she is a student council representative, participates in the Explore program, and is a member of PANDAmonium, the fifth grade choir. She enjoys piano and softball. Josie's music teacher is Dr. Lorrie Stringer.

The selected students have been invited to attend and perform at the Mississippi Music Educators Association/American Choral Directors Association Conference being held this week (April 4-6, 2013) in Hattiesburg.
