MHS Band Scores Superior!

In October, the Meridian High School marching band scored a superior rating in all categories for their show, "A Taste of Latin Jazz," at three band competitions- West Jones Marching Classic, MHSAA Region III Marching Festival, and Chunky River Band Classic.

The Wildcat band started its competition season at the West Jones Marching Classic on Oct. 1 as one of 15 bands competing. "The Greatest Band In All The Land" was one of only four bands that received a superior rating in all categories that day.

"The Greatest Band In All The Land" went on to host the MHSAA Region III Marching Festival at Ray Stadium on Oct. 8 with 33 bands competing. The bands were judged on Drum Major, Percussion, Color Guard, and overall band. The Wildcats received a superior in every category and had the fourth highest score in the entire state's 6A classification.

On Oct. 15, the Wildcats traveled to Union, MS for the Chunky River Band Classic. The Meridian Wildcats competed in the Division II-Large class with 7 other bands. Once again, "The Greatest Band In All The Land" received all superior ratings in each category.

The Wildcat Band has received 12 trophies overall for their 2011 contest show.

The band is under the direction of Joel Hosey, Amber Roland, Andrew Pryor, Antonio Altman, and percussion instructor, Damon Barnes.
