Kendrick Named 2012 MPSD Administrator of the Year

Kimberly Kendrick, Crestwood Elementary School Principal, will represent Meridian Public School District as 2012 Administrator of the Year.

Kendrick, a 17 year education veteran, was surprised with this announcement at her school today, February 6.

This is her second year as Principal of Crestwood Elementary. She began her career as a teacher at Alberta Elementary in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Nine years later, she was promoted to Assistant Principal of Eastwood Middle School in Tuscaloosa where she served for four years.

“It was always a goal of mine to return to Meridian to serve the community that nurtured me as a child,” said Kendrick. “I am happy to be here, at Crestwood Elementary, doing just that.”

Kendrick was selected for the honor of MPSD Administrator of the Year based on the tremendous growth her school showed on the Miss. Curriculum Test, Second Edition given this past May. Crestwood Elementary had a Quality Distribution Index (the score of the MCT2 test that is used to measure school performance) of 105 in the 2009-10 school year, and Kendrick was able to guide her school to raise that score 19 points to a 124 in the 2010-11 school year. That is an impressive 18 percent growth. Under the leadership of Kendrick, Crestwood had the highest percentage of growth for the whole Meridian School District.

Superintendent Dr. Alvin Taylor said, “Ms. Kendrick truly exemplifies the four goals that our district is working hard to achieve. Her school is a great example of one working hard to ensure safe and orderly schools, improving student achievement, increasing accountability, and strengthening community relations. She is helping the Meridian Public School District by making positive strides daily.”

Kendrick earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters degree from the University of Alabama, and she is a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

She will represent MPSD in the 2012 Mississippi Administrator of the Year program which honors an individual who represents the excellent school leaders in Miss.
