Dr. Taylor's Blog- On a Positive Note...

Parents and Community of Meridian,

Believe it or not, we are already six and a half months into the school year! We have accomplished a lot so far, and we are looking forward to finishing the year strong.

We hope that you took advantage of Parent/Teacher Conferences today! These conferences are extremely important as it is the parent’s way to see first-hand the education your child is receiving.

We only have three more weeks in the third nine week grading period before our third Common Assessments. The scores on the Common Assessments are not only important to track teacher and school progress, but they show the individual performance of students as well. Please talk to your child about the importance of the test and that they should strive to do well on them.

After the third Common Assessments, the students and teachers are in for a nice break! Yes, Spring Break is right around the corner- March 12-16!

When we return from Spring Break, we will be in the final stretch of preparation for the state-mandated exam. We really need the help of parents and community members during this time to help us keep the students focused on academics as this is a pivotal time in the academic career of the students.

As I mentioned above, we have been able to accomplish a lot already this year, and much of it is due to the hard work of the teachers and administrators. Please help me congratulate the following Teachers of the Year:

Crestwood Elementary- Shevondra Clayton

T.J. Harris Elementary- Carla Desmond

Oakland Heights Elementary- Elise Dickerson

Parkview Elementary- Kirby Simmons

Poplar Springs Elementary- Jennifer Dupont

West Hills Elementary- Kathy Scott

Carver Middle- Vickie Moseley

Magnolia Middle- Robin Hall

Northwest Middle- Jason Kidd

Meridian High- Donna Smith

Ross Collins- Laurel Rigdon

The teacher that will represent the Meridian Public School District as the 2012 Teacher of the Year is Jennifer DuPont.

The 2012 MPSD Administrator of the Year is Kimberly Kendrick, Crestwood Elementary Principal.

Congratulations to these teachers and administrators for their hard work and dedication to the students of their school and Meridian. We appreciate you!

Finally, thank you, parents and community, for your support this year! We will continue to provide you with good schools and quality education by Making Positive Strides Daily.

Believe in Blue,
Dr. Taylor
