MHS Academic Team Ends Remarkable Year

The Meridian High School Academic Team has added another championship to its list of accomplishments this year! The Academic Team recently finished their remarkable season by winning the “Faber Classic” tournament hosted by St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Jackson. The "Faber Classic" is a pre-qualifying tournament for the National round of the National Academic Quiz Tournaments.

Senator Videt Carmichael, a member of the State of Mississippi Senate, made a special presentation to the Academic Team in honor of this accomplishment on Wednesday, May 16. He presented the team and its coach, Michael Clymer, with a plaque from the Mississippi Senate representing a proclamation passed on the floor of the Senate to salute the Academic Team for its first place Championship at Regional Competition.

House Speakers Snowden and Young will present another award to the Academic Team on Wednesday, May 23.

The 2011-12 Academic Team members include:

Coach: Mike Clymer

Seniors: Pieter Both, Daniel May and Manpreet Singh

Juniors: Kajol Champaneri, Kelly Offenberger, Emma Reeves and Joniqua Ward

Sophomores: Andrew Bator, Christopher Cross, Scott Ellis, Pearson Kelly and John Price.

MPSD Names New Principal for Oakland Heights Elementary and Director for OECE

Angela McQuarley has been named 2012-13 Principal for Oakland Heights Elementary School. She moves to Oakland Heights from T.J. Harris Elementary where she is currently serving as Assistant Principal. To read the full story, click here.

Laquita Moore will serve as Director of the Office of Exceptional Child Education beginning July 1. She comes to Meridian from Louisville School District where she is currently serving as Director of Special Education. To read the full story, click here.

“Battle for the Cure” Softball Game

Meridian High School and Southeast Lauderdale High School teamed up to host the second annual Breast Cancer Awareness softball game better known as the “Battle for the Cure.” The teams were able to raise $2,500 to donate to help raise awareness in our area. Out of 11 local educators that were recognized by Mississippi State University- Meridian Campus for excellence in education, six were from the Meridian Public School District!
