MS Art Commission’s “Museum on Wheels” at Poplar Springs Elementary

Poplar Springs Elementary School is proud to be the first school in the Meridian area to welcome “Museum on Wheels – A Lesson in Visual Arts.”

The “Museum on Wheels” is a visual arts exhibit with replicas of contemporary and classic artwork. The goal of this exhibit is to bring communities together through the power of visual art and to serve as an educational tool for students.

Check it out! The exhibit runs until September 7, 2012 at Poplar Springs Elementary School.

MHS Baseball and Softball Teams Welcome New Head Coaches

Robert Cole has been named Head Coach for the Wildcat Baseball Team. Cole is a 1983 graduate of Meridian High School. He returned to serve his alma mater in 1995 and has been an integral part of the coaching team ever since. During that time, Cole served under Coach Bill McFarland and Coach Chuck Butler. He is also a graduate of the University of Mississippi with a degree in Business and Sports Management. Congratulations Coach Cole!

The Lady Wildcat Softball Team welcomes Coach Amy Sharp. Sharp is a 2011 graduate of Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and Minor in Math. Before attending MSU, she played softball at East Central Community College. Sharp is also a graduate of Neshoba Central High School where she coached as a graduate assistant for two years. Welcome Coach Sharp!

MHS Visual Arts Students of the Month

The following students from Meridian High School were chosen as Visual Arts Students of the Month and classroom leaders based on their demonstration of the three paws of MHS- Punctual, Prepared, and Polite.

Punctual- They are on time and in class each and every day.

Prepared- They always have materials needed or required for the work. They work above and beyond the required criteria for the project, and show diligence and work ethic.

Polite- They are respectful of themselves, other students, and adults. They are polite without expecting anything in return.

Meridian High School “Parent Power Hour”

Meridian High School Parents are encouraged to attend the “Parent Power Hour” on Thursday, August 30 at 5:30 p.m. in the MHS Auditorium. It will be the first PTO meeting of the year with officer elections as well as a time for parents to learn how they can help their students stay on track for graduation.

Wildcat Football

The Wildcats are off to a great start after defeating the Clinton Arrows last Friday night. They will travel to take on Wayne County tonight.

It’s not too late to purchase tickets for the rest of the season!

-Reserved chair-back seating Season Ticket: $100 (includes reserved parking)
-Reserved chair-back Seating: $20 per game
-General Admission Seating: $8 per game
-All Sport Adult Pass: $80 (Love Wildcat sports? Use this pass to come to all sporting events for one low price!)

-Student Athlete Pass: $20 (MHS Student Athletes can use this pass to attend other sporting events throughout the year.)

Magnolia Middle Cheerleaders Earn High Honors at Cheer Camp

The Magnolia Middle School Cheerleaders traveled to Baton Rouge, LA on July 25th-27th to participate in Junior High Cheer Camp sponsored by the Universal Cheerleaders Association.

The squad earned high honors including:
- two Excellence ribbons for cheer routine
- five Superior ribbons for Home Pom routine and Extreme routine
-5th place overall trophy for Extreme dance routine
-Most Improved Squad Overall for the entire camp

The 2012-13 Magnolia Cheerleaders are ZyKerria Harbin, Tanaesha Johnigan, Alexandra Hamlin, Kameron Walker, Morgan Barton, KaShunna Coleman, Jamia Jordon, Dachona Thomas, Natalie Herlong, and Krystal Gates.

This is the first year for Magnolia’s cheerleading squad, and we are extremely proud of the accomplishments of these very talented and dedicated young ladies!

6th Grade Beginner Band Instrument Night

Monday, August 27 - 6:00 p.m.

MHS Band Hall

This will be an informative meeting for parents and guardians of 6th Grade Band students about purchasing or obtaining a beginning band instrument. Instruments will be available to purchase, as well as rent to own, from a local instrument dealer. Questions can be directed to your student's middle school band director.

This is a very important meeting regarding your child’s education. In the PTO meeting, new officers will be elected to serve for the 2012-13 school year. The meeting will also include a “Parent Power Hour” that will be a grade level meeting hosted by the counselors with the purpose of giving you all the information you need to make sure your student is on track for graduation. You don’t want to miss this!

Teens age 13 and up

Cost: $85

This course, taught by the Red Cross, is meant to help students learn to care for children and infants; how to be good leaders and role models; how to make good decisions, solve problems, and stay safe; how to handle emergencies such as injuries, illnesses, and accidents; and to write resumes and interview for jobs.
