MPSD Receives Substantial Grant from Phil Hardin Foundation

The Meridian Public School District was recently awarded a $1,663,500 grant from the Phil Hardin Foundation. The money will be used to support the expansion of the Little Wildcats Pre-K program, addition of District Instructional Specialists, establishment of the Fine Arts and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Small Learning Communities, and continued support and growth of the Teacher Incentive program.

Trustmark National Bank for the donation of $500 to Northwest Middle School for student incentives.

Barbara Henson’s Nursery School & Swim Gym for the donation of $700 to Oakland Heights Elementary to sponsor a student for the Washington, D.C. trip.

VanZyverden, Inc. for the $1,000 donation to Oakland Heights for the Washington, D.C. trip.

U.S. District Court Southern District for the donation of four Dell Laptops to Poplar Springs Elementary.

Crestwood Elementary Sings!

The fourth graders of Crestwood Elementary were privileged to participate in the 14th Annual Mississippi Sings event recently held in Jackson at Thalia Mara Hall. This event is sponsored by the Mississippi Music Educators Association and the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. The theme this year was Blues, Bluegrass, ‘N More: Mississippi Sights and Sounds.

MHS Honors Students with “Advanced” SATP Scores

Meridian High School recently honored 123 students that scored “Advanced” (the highest level) on one or more of the 2011-12 Subject Area Tests. The students had a special lunch to celebrate and received a t-shirt.

MHS Wildcat Players Present The Hysterical History of the Trojan War

Tonight at 7 p.m. in the MHS Auditorium ~Admission is $3 per person or 2 for $5 and children under 4 are free.

MHS Cheerleaders Host Christmas Cheer and Babysitting Event

While you have a night off, the children will get to play games, watch movies, and take Christmas card pictures with Wally the Wildcat. Poplar Springs Auditorium
First grade students will present an arts integrated program entitled “Our Favorite Christmas Stories.” Using drama, music, dance, and visual art, students will share classic children's literature of the season.

Thursday, December 6
Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 3rd, and 5th grade students invite family members for Christmas Dinner. Students and family members will eat with their classes at assigned times.
