Meridian High School Girls Powerlifting Team Wins State!!

The MHS Girls Powerlifiting team won the Class 3 Mississippi State Championship last week!

MHS standout Brenekia Horne broke Mississippi records in bench press (150 pounds) and in squat (345 pounds)!

Congratulations to Coach Hampton and these young ladies on a huge win!

Amanda Crowell, Carver Middle Science Teacher, Honored with Golden Apple Award

Each month an outstanding teacher in the East Mississippi and West Alabama area is presented with the Golden Apple Award honoring his or her commitment to excellence in the classroom. For the third time this year, MPSD is proud to have a Golden Apple Award Winning teacher!

Carver Middle School Science Teacher Amanda Crowell was surprised in her classroom last week with the prestigious award. She was nominated by her Principal, Tiffany Plott, for using creative methods to make science real and relevant to her students. Ms. Crowell received the Golden Apple trophy, $300 check, and $1,000 for classroom supplies.

Congratulations Ms. Crowell! MPSD is very proud of you!!

MHS Concert Choir Raising Funds for Carnegie Hall Performance

In order to raise money to cover the travel expenses for their Carnegie Hall Performance in New York City, the MHS Concert Choir members are asking for your support.

There is a pot luck dinner tonight at 5:30 p.m. and Spring Concert at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for dinner and donations will be taken at the door of the concert.

They are also selling t-shirts for $15 which can be purchased by using the following link http://campaign.customink.com/mhschoir.

MHS Band Concert Rescheduled

The MHS Spring Band Concert was originally scheduled on Thursday, April 11 but had to be canceled due to inclement weather. We hope that you will make plans to support them on Tuesday, April 30 at 6 p.m. in the MHS Auditorium. They will be taking donations to replace band uniforms for Choctaw County High School in Butler, AL that was recently destroyed by fire. You don’t want to miss this performance!

The MHS Concert Choir has been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City in January, and they are raising funds for the trip. Please help support these students as they work toward the trip of a lifetime!

 

Poplar Springs Elementary Be Your Best Self Program

April 23, 2013 - 10:15 and 11:15 a.m.

Poplar Springs Auditorium

Mackenzie Ross, 2013 MS Distinguished Young Woman, will present her "Be Your Best Self" program to 4th and 5th grade students. She will speak to the group about setting and achieving goals, her passion for music as well as the component of the national "Be Your Best Self" program. She will perform on the piano for the students as well as share her experiences in goal setting and making healthy lifestyle choices.

 

T.J. Harris Elementary Gifted Gala

Wednesday, April 24

The Gifted Gala is an annual event presented by the students of the Gifted Education programs in MPSD. This presentation, which takes place on each elementary and middle school campus, provides parents, teachers, students, administrators, and community members a chance to view products and projects created by students in Explore and Artquest. Students will host visitors during grade-level activity periods at the elementary school and regular Explore class periods at the middle schools. The gifted education teacher will be available to host throughout the day.

8:30-11am- PK-2nd grade

12-2:30 pm 3rd-5th grades

PE Field

Students compete in field games utilizing skills learned in PE class. Makeup day (in case of rain) is April 26.

 

T.J. Harris Elementary MCT2 Test Prep - Upper Campus

Thursday, April 25 - 5:30 p.m.

Teachers will discuss tips for parents and students regarding the MCT2.

Oakland Heights Elementary Kindergarten Trip to Jackson Zoo

Friday, April 26

Kindergarten students will visit the Jackson Zoo, and upon their return, the students will create and participate in a walk-through animal museum. Kindergarten will also create alphabet animal pictures to mimic the Mississippi artist, Walter Inglis Anderson.

Please join us for the Spring Band Concert. The MHS Band will be taking monetary donations during the concert to help their fellow band students at Choctaw County High School in Butler, AL. CCHS was destroyed by fire recently, and they are raising money to purchase new uniforms.
