2013-14 MPSD Registration

Registration for all MPSD students will be held Monday, July 15 through Friday, July 19 at each school from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Meridian High School students will register according to grade level: Monday, July 15 – Seniors Tuesday, July 16 – Juniors Wednesday, July 17– Sophomores Thursday, July 18 – Freshmen Friday, July 19 – New Students and Make-Up Day

What To Bring: Parents and Guardians must bring photo identification and two proofs of residence.

Acceptable proofs of residence include: filed homestead exemption application form, mortgage documents or property deed, apartment or home lease (rental receipt), one utility bill (water, gas, or electric), driver’s license or voter precinct identification, and automobile registration.

New Students: Parents and Guardians of students who are new to MPSD must provide photo identification, two proofs of residence, birth certificate, social security card, and immunization records.

Important Reminder for Seventh Grade Students: Don’t forget that all incoming seventh grade students must provide proof of the T-dap vaccination.

Three MPSD Staff Honored with Awards from Mississippi Alliance for Arts Education

The Mississippi Alliance for Arts Education will honor three MPSD staff members with awards on Wednesday, July 17 at the Whole Schools Summer Institute that will be held at the MSU Riley Center.

LaVonda Germany, Principal of Poplar Springs Elementary, is receiving the Mississippi Alliance for Arts Education Outstanding Administrator of the Year award.

Linda Guise, Music teacher at Oakland Heights Elementary, is receiving the 2013 Thad Cochran Distinguished Arts Educator award in the area of Music.

Holly Triplett, First grade teacher at Poplar Springs Elementary, is receiving the 2013 Thad Cochran Distinguished Arts Educator award in the area of Arts Integration.

Congratulations to these ladies on this huge honor!

MHS Band Invited to 2013 Florida Citrus Parade

The Meridian High School Band has been invited to participate in the 2013 Florida Citrus Parade! This is the 33rd year of the parade and over two million viewers tune in to watch this annual event that is not only televised in the United States but throughout many other countries. Congratulations to the ‘Greatest Band in All the Land’! We are very proud of you!

Four MPSD Schools Receive Arts Commission Grants

The Mississippi Arts Commission has granted $1.27 million in funding to artists and arts programs across the state for the fiscal year 2014.

The Meridian Public School District is pleased to have four schools that received MAC grants.

Northwest Middle School - Whole Schools Initiative

Oakland Heights Elementary - Whole Schools Initiative

Parkview Elementary - Arts in the Classroom

Poplar Springs Elementary - Model Whole School and additional grant money to present Puppet Arts Theatre

Meridian High School Girls Soccer Team Wins Gold!!

The MHS Girls Soccer Team won a gold medal during the 2013 State Games of Mississippi! We are so proud of our soccer team and coaches! Great job!!

MHS Varsity Cheerleaders Earn Second Place at Summer Camp

Congratulations to the MHS Varsity Cheerleaders and Coaches for an impressive second place finish at summer camp! The cheerleaders attended camp at the University of Alabama during the last week of June.

United Way’s "Stuff the Bus" Campaign

The United Way of East Mississippi is holding their annual “Stuff the Bus” campaign next week to support local elementary school students. They are collecting new and used school uniforms, school supplies, and donations to help provide elementary school students with the supplies they need to kick off the new school year. You can help “Stuff the Bus” on Tuesday, July 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Dumont Plaza.

Two MPSD School Resource Officers Graduated from Recent SRO Training Class

Officer Reese and Officer Thompson of the Meridian Public School District recently graduated from the School Resource Officer Training Class which was hosted by the Mississippi Department of Education. This class offers specialized training for State Certified Law Enforcement Officers for the purpose of serving in and on school campuses. Proudly, the Meridian Public School District now has four Certified SROs and ten School Security Officers to serve the District which shows a continued commitment to provide a safe and orderly school environment for students, parents, and staff.
