Rosemary Young, MHS Teacher, Named August Golden Apple Award Winner

Rosemary Young, Special Education Teacher at MHS, was recently surprised in her classroom with the August Golden Apple Award. The Golden Apple is awarded each month to an outstanding teacher in East Mississippi and West Alabama area for his or her commitment to excellence in the classroom. Labor Day Holiday

PBIS Teachers of the Year for 2013-14

The Meridian Public School District recently recognized 12 teachers for their outstanding implementation of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) program during the 2013-14 school year.

2014 MHS Homecoming T-Shirts Available for Order

Meridian High School will host Provine for the 2014 Homecoming game on Friday, October 3 at Ray Stadium. Homecoming t-shirts are on sale now. The cost is $10 for sizes Small - X Large and $12 for sizes 2 X and 3 X. To order call Mrs. Carter in the MHS Front Office - 601.484.4427 or see Ms. Reed in Room 231, Ms. Fowler in the 9th Grade Building Front Office, or Mrs. Brown in the Ross Collins Front Office. The deadline to order is Wednesday, September 10. Golden Apple Award Nominations

MPSD is pleased to have five teachers from our district awarded Golden Apples since the program began at the beginning of the 2012-13 school year. The Golden Apple Awards will continue this year, so nominate your favorite teacher by visiting either www.meridianstar.com or www.wgbctv.com and clicking on the Golden Apple logo.

Nominations can be submitted by parents, faculty, or community members, as well as past and present students.

Britt Gully will perform in character as "Jimmie Rodgers" to kick off the 3rd grade study of our hometown Meridian.

 

Meridian High School Parent Power Hour

Thursday, September 4 – 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The Parent Power Hour is a time for parents of Meridian High School students to learn about the expectations at MHS, the School Counts program, Common Core, Title I, graduation requirements, college readiness, and testing.

 

Parkview Elementary School Parent Meeting

Thursday, September 4 – 5:30 p.m.

 

Poplar Springs Elementary School Arts Integration/Multiple Intelligences Parent Workshop

Thursday, September 4 - Noon and 6 p.m.

PSE Library

Parents will have the opportunity to learn about Arts Integration and how PSE uses Multiple Intelligences as learning styles to promote student success.

 

Northwest Middle School Science Fair Workshop

Thursday, September 4 – 6 to 7 p.m.

Northwest Middle School Library

Informational session for parents, guardians, and students to learn how to better prepare for science fair. Various materials to help with Science Fair Boards will be free to attendees.

T.J. Harris Upper Elementary “Chillin’ Out” Dance
Friday, September 5

The “Chillin’ Out” dance will celebrate the students who did not receive a corrective strategy or office referral for the month of August.

 

Northwest Middle School ‘Meet the Bulldogs’ PTO & Title I Meeting

Tuesday, September 9 - 6 to 7 p.m.

Northwest Middle School Library

The Northwest Parent Teacher Organization will meet followed by the annual Title I Meeting to inform parents of their school’s participation in Title I programs, and to explain the Title I requirements and right of parents to be involved in those programs. This will also be a time to ‘Meet the Bulldogs’ with special appearances and performances by the Northwest Football team, Cheerleaders, and Band.

T.J. Harris Lower Elementary “College Is Our Destination” Rally

Friday, September 12 – 2:00 p.m.

All T.J. Harris Lower Elementary students are focused on college! The “College is Our Destination” Rally is essentially a pep-rally that kicks off the year-long effort to promote college planning for students. Each classroom at T.J. Harris Lower campus represents a college or university. The students will learn the history of that school, follow the sports teams of the school, participate in math projects based on the sports stats, hear from guest speakers (in person or via podcast), and will host their own college fair. In addition, students that come to school on time every day, have no office discipline referrals, and maintain a "C" or better average will be allowed to wear their college t-shirts on Fridays because they have exhibited college bound behaviors.

 

MPSD Parent/Teacher Conference Day and Early Dismissal
Tuesday, September 16
Elementary Dismissal – 12:40 p.m.
Middle and High School Dismissal – 1:10 p.m.
Parents are encouraged to attend Parent/Teacher conferences from 2 to 6 p.m. to get an update on their student’s performance in school as well as pick up the first nine weeks progress report.
