Key Communicator-December 18, 2015 ------ All MPSD schools will be closed for Winter Break on Monday, December 21 through Tuesday, January 5. Students will return to school on Wednesday, January 6, 2016. Happy Holidays from the Wildcat Family! ------ The Meridian Public School District will be hosting the second annual “Race for the Future” 5K Run, 2 mile Walk, and 1 mile Fun Run on Saturday, January 16 at 9:00 a.m. at MHS. All proceeds benefit dropout prevention efforts within the District. To register, please click here. ------ Congratulations to Yolanda Scott, Carver Middle School, and James Harrison, Marion Park Alternative School, who were honored today with a surprise classroom visit, flowers/gift basket, and $25 gift card. Carver – Yolanda Scott Marion Park – James Harrison Mayor Percy Bland, Meridian Parks and Recreation Director Kelvin McGruder, and local businesses, Cartoons and Balloons and Nino's Daycare, will be recognizing an outstanding teacher or staff member from two MPSD schools a month during the 2015-16 school year. Congratulations to Ms. Scott and Mr. Harrison! We are very proud of you! ------ The MHS Wildcat Players (Theatre Group) traveled to Mississippi State University recently to compete in the Mississippi Theatre Association's North State Competition against 16 other High Schools. The Wildcat Players won the Theatre Festival Spirit Award which was voted on by MSU Staff and student workers and given to a school based on their behavior on and off the stage, their attitudes, and overall enjoyment of the competition. They also won the Distinguished Choreography Award, and Jeffery James was named to the All-Star Cast. They will compete again in January as part of the Theatre for Youth Competition in Meridian at the MSU Riley Center. Congratulations to the Wildcat Players! ------ The Meridian Public School District students and staff really have a heart for giving.
