MPSD Winter Break

All MPSD schools will be closed for Winter Break on Monday, December 21 through Tuesday, January 5. Students will return to school on Wednesday, January 6, 2016.

MPSD to Host Second Annual “Race for the Future” 5K Run, 2 mile Walk, and 1 mile Fun Run

The Meridian Public School District will be hosting the second annual “Race for the Future” 5K Run, 2 mile Walk, and 1 mile Fun Run on Saturday, January 16 at 9:00 a.m. at MHS. All proceeds benefit dropout prevention efforts within the District.

December Teachers of the Month

Congratulations to Yolanda Scott, Carver Middle School, and James Harrison, Marion Park Alternative School, who were honored today with a surprise classroom visit, flowers/gift basket, and $25 gift card.

Carver – Yolanda Scott Ms. Scott teaches self-contained special education at Carver Middle School. She was honored as Teacher of the Month because of her heart for children. Ms. Scott is always there for her students, goes above and beyond, works hard, and is a great team player.

Marion Park – James Harrison Mr. Harrison was chosen as Marion Park’s Teacher of the Year as well as Teacher of the Month. He was chosen by his administrators and fellow teachers for his dedication and leadership. Mr. Harrison is extremely compassionate and giving, and he never expects anything in return.

Mayor Percy Bland, Meridian Parks and Recreation Director Kelvin McGruder, and local businesses, Cartoons and Balloons and Nino's Daycare, will be recognizing an outstanding teacher or staff member from two MPSD schools a month during the 2015-16 school year. 

Congratulations to Ms. Scott and Mr. Harrison! We are very proud of you!

Wildcat Players Earn Award at Recent Competition

The MHS Wildcat Players (Theatre Group) traveled to Mississippi State University recently to compete in the Mississippi Theatre Association's North State Competition against 16 other High Schools. The Wildcat Players won the Theatre Festival Spirit Award which was voted on by MSU Staff and student workers and given to a school based on their behavior on and off the stage, their attitudes, and overall enjoyment of the competition. They also won the Distinguished Choreography Award, and Jeffery James was named to the All-Star Cast. They will compete again in January as part of the Theatre for Youth Competition in Meridian at the MSU Riley Center.

MPSD Gives Back

The Meridian Public School District students and staff really have a heart for giving. Here are few examples of recent efforts to help others in our community:

United Way The MPSD Staff contributed almost $6,800 to the annual United Way campaign!

L.O.V.E.’S Kitchen The Meridian High School National Art Honor Society donated $1,300 to L.O.V.E.’S Kitchen through the annual Empty Bowls, Empty Hearts Dinner, and the MHS National Honor Society donated over $1,300 to L.O.V.E.’S Kitchen from the annual Turkey Feathers fundraiser.

Salvation Army Angel Tree The Meridian High School Girls Basketball Team adopted several Angels from the Salvation Army Angel Tree this year and provided clothes and toys to support those children.

Local Families in Need The students and staff from West Hills Elementary School donated clothes, toys, and bikes to three families in need this holiday season.

Wesley House Poplar Springs Elementary School donated 33 bikes and hundreds of toys to the Wesley House this year through the 29th Annual Giving Feast.

WOW Wildcats! Way to go!
