Mrs. Whitehead is a fourth grade math teacher at T.J. Harris Upper Elementary School, and she is truly a team player.  She goes above and beyond what is expected.  Ms. Whitehead pushes her students to be successful and to make positive strides daily.  She always has a smile on her face and is ready to jump in where needed. The students, faculty, staff, and administration choose Mrs. Whitehead as teacher of the month, and we salute her today and everyday!

Ms. Riddle is a first grade teacher at Little Harris who also serves as a mentor teacher to not only her grade level team, but to others as well. She truly has the best interest of the child in mind when planning lessons and creating behavior incentives, and she graciously opens her classroom doors for others to observe her effective instructional practices. When making classroom observations, the reasons are obvious that her students consistently show more than a year's worth of growth- she has built strong relationships with her students. She knows their personalities, their strengths, their weaknesses, their learning styles, and their families. She truly knows her students. Even after 28 years of teaching, she still wants to learn new strategies and implement new practices in order to reach all students.

Mayor Percy Bland, Meridian Parks and Recreation Director Kelvin McGruder, and local businesses, Cartoons and Balloons and Nino's Daycare, will be recognizing an outstanding teacher or staff member from two MPSD schools a month during the 2016-17 school year.

Congratulations to Mary Whitehead and Deloris Riddle! We are very proud of you!
