MPSD Flu Season Guidelines

Parents,

As you may know, the peak of the cold and flu season is upon us. It is important to be prepared for all possible situations to help control the spread of infectious diseases at school and allow your child to be available for learning.

Students should remain at home for the following flu-like symptoms:

  • Fever (100 degrees F. or higher) or feverishness

  • Cough

  • Sore throat

  • Runny or stuffy nose

  • Body aches

  • A feeling of being very tired

  • Vomiting or diarrhea

All individuals who have flu-like symptoms should remain at home and avoid contact with others. Everyone should be free of fever without the use of fever-reducing medicines for at least 24 hours before returning to school.

What You Can Do To Help:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Stay home when sick. Maintain distance from other people to prevent the spread of illness.

  • Wash hands often with soap and hot water for at least 20 seconds. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are also helpful in reducing the spread of the flu.

  • Cover coughs and sneezes with tissues or by coughing into the inside of the elbow. Wash hands after blowing the nose or coughing into a tissue, and dispose of tissues after use.

  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth to prevent the spread of germs.

Thank you for keeping our children and our schools healthy. If you have questions, please contact your child’s school.

Sincerely,

Dr. Amy J. Carter

Superintendent of Meridian Public School District
