'Biggest Loser' Winner Encourages Carver Students to Live Healthy back button

Season 10 Winner of NBC’s ‘The Biggest Loser,’ Patrick House encouraged students at Carver Middle School to make healthy food choices today.

This special treat was brought to Carver by the Mississippi State Medical Association Alliance and MSMAA member Sarah Mutziger. Mutziger chose Carver to receive this gift because she “had done some volunteer work there this fall and was so impressed with the spirit of the school and the leadership promoting it!”

Carver Principal Tiffany Plott said, “We are so grateful to Sara Mutziger and the Mississippi State Medical Association and Alliance for recognizing Carver Middle School. They have allowed us the opportunity to partner with them to advance health education among our students and faculty.”

House and MSMAA have partnered to create a program entitled LEAN ON ME which stands for Learn, Eradicate, Advocate, Nullify Obesity Now in Mississippi’s Educational System. The LEAN ON ME program targets elementary and middle school children in Mississippi with a message of making healthier choices based on nutrition, exercise, and in the relationships with their fellow students.

Through the LEAN ON ME program, House promoted an anti-bullying message as well as teaching students about how to embrace the new food plate diagram suggested by the federal government to replace the old food pyramid. House also encouraged the students to include everyone in their activities and games while never shunning a child who might be an easy target due to his or her weight.

House gave all of the students a green silicone wristband symbolizing the color of vegetables and his team color from ‘The Biggest Loser.’

MSMAA also donated a fruit and vegetable sectionizer and apple corer to Carver with the goal of encouraging the consumption of fruits and vegetables by presenting them in an attractive way to students.
