Fall Break

Students will be out of school for Fall Break on Monday, October 8 and Tuesday, October 9, 2012. Teachers will be off Monday, October 8, but they will return on Tuesday, October 9 for Professional Development. The MPSD Central Office will remain open both days.

Dual Credit Agreement with Meridian Community College

MPSD Superintendent Dr. Alvin Taylor signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Meridian Community College last week to continue offering dual credit classes to students at Meridian High School.

Dual credit is a program that allows high school students to simultaneously earn college credit toward a post secondary degree or certificate at MCC and credit that will also count toward a high school diploma.

Meridian High School Homecoming
October 10 -12, 2012

There are plenty of Homecoming events scheduled, so join in the fun!

*Dress Up Days
Wednesday, October 10 – College Day (wear your favorite college t-shirt)
Thursday, October 11 – Wildcats Go Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness (wear pink)
Friday, October 12 – Spirit Day (wear blue and white)

*Breast Cancer Awareness
The MHS Student Council is selling pink Wildcats bracelets for $2 and blue and white pom poms for $2 to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness. They will donate the proceeds of the sales to the American Cancer Society. Please support MHS and the American Cancer Society by purchasing these items. To purchase or for more information, please call MHS (601.482.3191).

*Homecoming Parade - Thursday, October 11
There is still time to sign up to participate in the MHS Homecoming Parade! The deadline to register is October 9! So, if your club or organization is interested in participating, please click here for the entry form and more information.

On Thursday, floats will line up at Central Office at 4:30 p.m., and the parade begins at 5:30 p.m. The parade route starts on 25th Avenue in front of MPSD Central Office, takes a left on 8th Street, right on 23rd Avenue, left on 5th Street, right on 22nd Avenue, and left on 9th Street ending at WTOK for pep rally and crowing of MHS Homecoming King.

Bridging the Gap

The Meridian Public School District will have the annual Local Education Agency (LEA) Head Start Meeting on Thursday, October 25 at 10 a.m. The meeting will take place at the MPSD Parent Resource Center located at 4000 10th Street, Trailer A, Meridian MS 39307.

Crestwood Elementary School Behavior Bash
Friday, October 12 - 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.
Crestwood Cafeteria
Students with no office referrals for the first nine weeks will take part in a Behavior Bash Thriller Dance Party.

Report Cards
Monday, October 15
All MPSD Students will be issued a report card for the first nine weeks.

Oakland Heights Elementary Fall Book Fair
Monday, October 15 through Friday, October 19

Poplar Springs Elementary Family Night with Illustrator Chuck Galey
Tuesday, October 16 - 6:00 pm
Poplar Springs Auditorium
Illustrator and Artist Chuck Galey will work with all students during school day. Parents are invited to a Family Night with the artist. This exciting event is funded, in part, through a MS Arts Commission Mini Grant.

Ross Collins Career and Technical Center ASVAB Test
Tuesday, October 16 - 8:00 a.m.
Peavey Auditorium
Military personnel will administer the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) to students who are interested in a military career.

T.J. Harris Elementary School Bridging the Gap
Tuesday, October 16 - 5:30 p.m.
Lower Campus
Pre K-2nd Grade will be hosting an evening of fun, food, and learning with a spotlight on building strong readers. 

Crestwood Elementary School Career Day (3rd – 5th grade)
Wednesday, October 17 - 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Crestwood Cafeteria
Third through fifth grade students at Crestwood will be encouraged to begin thinking about a future career as various community leaders, businesses, and professions introduce career options.

Poplar Springs Librarian Bethany Garrett will share information regarding Reading Fair guidelines, tips for creating a Reading Fair project, as well as display sample projects. 

Poplar Springs Elementary Pep Rally
Friday, October 19 - 2:15 pm
Poplar Springs Bus parking lot
MHS Cheerleaders and football players will lead Poplar Springs in cheering on our Wildcats. The MHS students will encourage students to exhibit Panda Power: Pride, Ownership, Work, Effort and Respect.
