Two MHS Teachers Recently Earned Doctoral Degrees

Myra Catchings teaches Comprehensive Health to tenth through twelfth grade students at Meridian High School, and she recently earned her doctorate in Teacher Leadership from Walden University. Her dissertation focuses on “The Effects of an Integrated Health and Physical Education Program on Student Achievement.” She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education from Alcorn State University, a master’s degree in Physical Education from Mississippi State University, and another master’s degree in Special Education.

Blanca Ramirez teaches Accounting and Financial Technology at Meridian High School, and she recently earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership from Argosy University. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Business from Belhaven University and a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of West Alabama.

Congratulations to these outstanding teachers on such a huge accomplishment! We are so proud to have you teaching in the MPSD family!

Grant to Train Middle School Teachers

Mississippi State University- Meridian is generously providing 24 MPSD middle school teachers with a 20-day summer institute that will focus on critical thinking and problem solving skills. The goal of the project is to improve teaching and learning literacy in order to raise achievement in core academic subjects.

MHS Teacher Jonathan Cornell Recognized for Outstanding Work with MS Teacher Corps

Meridian High School Teacher Jonathan Cornell was recently recognized for his outstanding work by his alma mater – The University of Mississippi. Cornell played football while attending Ole Miss and graduated in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He is now in his first year at Meridian High School through Mississippi Teacher Corps.

Ross Collins FBLA Students Earn Top Awards

Students in Information Technology at Ross Collins Career and Technical Center recently participated in the Future Business Leaders of American (FBLA) competition that was held at East Central Community College.

Congratulations to the following students that took home top awards:

MHS Students Sign to Play at the Next Level

On National Signing Day, four MHS seniors signed to play college football:

Isaac Johnson – East Mississippi Community College

JaQuarius Scott – East Mississippi Community College

Jason Yabor – North Western State University

Shaquille Fluker – University of Georgia

Last week, three MHS seniors signed to play sports at Meridian Community College:

MHS Students Donate to Hattiesburg Schools in Need

After the recent tornado that hit the Hattiesburg area, Meridian High School students collected funds to send to Oak Grove and Hattiesburg High Schools. They collected $500 to help the Hattiesburg area students. To read more from WTOK, click here.
