MHS Concert Choir Invited to Perform at Carnegie Hall!

A huge congratulations goes to the MHS Concert Choir for being one of only two schools from Mississippi invited to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in January with the Distinguished Concerts International New York Concert Series.

The Concert Choir also recently earned all ‘Superior’ ratings at the District Choral Festival.

Beth Lang, Poplar Springs Kindergarten Teacher, Honored with Golden Apple Award

Each month an outstanding teacher in the East Mississippi and West Alabama area is presented with the Golden Apple Award honoring his or her commitment to excellence in the classroom.

Beth Lang, Poplar Springs Kindergarten Teacher and Teacher of the Year, was recently surprised with the March Golden Apple Award. A student’s mother and a co-worker nominated Mrs. Lang for this honor. Mrs. Lang received the Golden Apple trophy, $300 check, and $1,000 for classroom supplies.

Congratulations Mrs. Lang! MPSD is very proud of you!!

Three MPSD Students Selected for Statewide Elementary Honor Choir

Elementary students from our district recently auditioned in Madison against other fifth and sixth grade students from across the state for a spot in the statewide Elementary Honor Choir.

The elementary students selected from our district are Monica Hampton (Parkview Elementary), Josie Hanegan (Poplar Springs Elementary), and Caleb Fields (Poplar Springs Elementary).

The selected students have been invited to attend and perform at the Mississippi Music Educators Association/American Choral Directors Association Conference being held this week (April 4-6, 2013) in Hattiesburg.

2013-14 MHS Varsity Cheerleaders

MHS recently held Varsity Cheerleading tryouts. Congratulations to the following students that made the 2013-14 squad: Kryslin Brown, Katie Bruister, Devyn Chesney, Nakita Davis, Diana Gordon, Madeline Griffin, Margaret Griffin, Zykerria Harbin, Avery Harwell, Harini Patel, Alyssa Ricks, Jocelyn Rue, Brianna Scruggs, Angel Spencer, Joy Wade, Tykia Watts, and Tanika Williams.

ASM Material Camp 2013 – Register Now!

The 2013 ASM Material Camp will be held at Meridian High School again this year from June 3 through 7, 2013.

This camp is designed for high school science, chemistry, physics, math, and technology teachers as well as middle school physical science teachers.

The course is free and includes four CEUs, materials, lunch, and snacks! This is made possible through the generous financial support of the Office of Naval Research, Mississippi State University, and the Navy League.

MHS Teacher, Shuana Waters, Chosen to Study Ottoman Empire in Turkey

Meridian High School English Teacher Shauna Waters was one of 30 teachers selected out of 200 applications nationwide to participate in a three week summer institute through the National Endowment for the Humanities. These teachers will study the Ottoman Empire in Istanbul, Turkey. Congratulations Ms. Waters!

The Gifted Gala celebrates the work of ArtQuest and Explore students. Fifth graders will honor Community Leaders during this event.

Ross Collins HOSA State Conference

Wednesday, April 10 – Friday, April 12

Natchez, MS

Seven Health Science Students from Ross Collins will compete in the State Competition against students from across Mississippi. They are competing for a chance to advance to HOSA National Competition held in Nashville, TN in June.

 

Meridian High School Spring Band Concert

Thursday, April 11 – 6 p.m.

MHS Auditorium

Please join us for the Spring Band Concert. The MHS Band will be taking monetary donations during the concert to help their fellow band students at Choctaw County High School in Butler, AL. CCHS was destroyed by fire recently, and they are raising money to purchase new uniforms.
