MPSD E-mail Change

The Meridian Public School District has changed e-mail providers, so please update your contact information for all faculty and staff to reflect the new addresses.

The change is easy to remember…the first part of the e-mail address stays the same (the letters before the @ symbol), and all that is changing is the portion after the @ symbol. The change will be from @mpsd.k12.ms.us to @mpsdk12.net. For example, if the old email address for John Doe was jdoe@mpsd.k12.ms.us, the new email address will be jdoe@mpsdk12.net.

Thanks for your help in making this a smooth transition!

Teachers at Northwest Middle and West Hills Elementary Honored by City of Meridian Today

Mayor Percy Bland, Meridian Parks and Recreation Director Kelvin McGruder, and local businesses, Cartoons and Balloons and Nino's Daycare, will be recognizing an outstanding teacher or staff member from two MPSD schools a month during the 2013-14 school year.

Congratulations to Ms. Hill at Northwest and Ms. Pippin at West Hills who were honored today with a surprise classroom visit, $25 gift card from Nino’s Daycare, and roses from Cartoons and Balloons.

Northwest - Kimberly Hill
Ms. Hill teaches 8th Grade Pre-Algebra and Algebra. She was selected for her ability to engage students in actively learning Math, going out of her way to tutor students at their convenience, and taking the initiative to work collaboratively with her peers.

West Hills - Britney Pippin
Ms. Pippin teaches first grade and is being recognized for having lesson plans, assessments, and newsletters turned in on time, having perfect attendance, being on time to work each day, going above and beyond the call of duty, keeping a positive attitude, and updating grades in the grade book on time.

Congratulations! We are very proud of you!

T.J. Harris Lower Elementary Students are College Bound

T.J. Harris Lower Elementary recently held a College Rally to kick-off the "College is Our Destination" program. In line with the Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) program, T.J. Harris Lower is rewarding students for positive behaviors by allowing the students to wear a college t-shirt to school on Fridays. If a student has been on time every day, has no office discipline referrals, and maintains a "C" average, they will be allowed to wear their college t-shirts on Fridays because they have exhibited college bound behaviors. In addition, students will learn the history of the college, follow the sports of the school, participate in math projects based on the sports stats, hear from guest speakers (in person or via podcast), and will host their own college fair. Their classroom's identity for the entire school year will be connected to the college that has adopted their class, not a room number or grade level.

MHS VAPA Students Unveil New Campus Mural

As part of the 'Campus Pride Mural Art Project,' Meridian High School Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) students have created and painted six murals around the school campus. The latest mural, 'The Tree of Creation,' was unveiled recently. This mural is located at the top of the stairs in the Activities Building at MHS, and it features the word CREATE with each letter representing a different focus of the arts - Connect, Risk, Explore, Appreciate, Think, and Experience. 'The Tree of Creation' was designed by students Ashley Reed and Rosey Lau, but it was painted by many VAPA students. All of the 'Campus Pride Mural Art Projects' are part of an education grant from the Meridian Arts Council.
