Parkview – Sophia Evins, a fourth grade Reading and Language Arts teacher, was recently surprised in her classroom with a $25 gift card to Applebees from Nino’s Daycare and flowers from Cartoons and Balloons. Mrs. Evins consistently pushes and motivates her students to show growth and to do their best work. She is ranked an “A” teacher this year due to her hard work and level of commitment. Mrs. Evins is a “teacher’s teacher” who motivates her team and the entire school with her ability to reach the children with the most difficult behaviors and low academic scores. With 16 years of experience, she is a no-nonsense teacher who expects her student to excel no matter what.

Magnolia – Mr. Hosey was recently surprised in the Magnolia office with a $25 gift card to Applebees from Nino’s Daycare and a label maker from Cartoons and Balloons. Mr. Hosey serves as the Behavior Counselor at Magnolia Middle School and has done a tremendous job with the implementation of PBIS.  He has developed a positive relationship and rapport with the students, and he keeps the teachers and students informed of where the school is when it comes to discipline.  Mr. Hosey models the expected behavior in the classrooms as well as provides the teachers with strategies that can assist them with classroom management.  Mr. Hosey does all of this with a positive attitude.

Mayor Percy Bland, Meridian Parks and Recreation Director Kelvin McGruder, and local businesses, Cartoons and Balloons and Nino's Daycare, will be recognizing an outstanding teacher or staff member from two MPSD schools a month during the 2014-15 school year.

Congratulations to Sophia Evins and Shannon Hosey! We are very proud of you!
