Updated: MPSD Race for the Future - Registration, Route, Packet Pick-Up & More! back button

The Meridian Public School District will host the third annual “Race for the Future” 5K run, 2 mile walk, and 1 mile kid’s fun run on Saturday, January 14, 2017. The Race begins at Meridian High School at 9:00 a.m. with the kid’s fun run followed by the 5K and 2 mile walk.

The “Race for the Future” was created three years ago to support the District’s student retention efforts. The Meridian Public School District has an intense focus on increasing the graduation rate to ensure that all students are successful and prepared for college and/or the career of their choice.

“When you support the Race for the Future, you allow the Meridian Public School District to continue funding additional programs aimed at students who are most at risk for not earning a high school diploma,” said Deidre Bland, MPSD Dropout Prevention Specialist and Race Coordinator. “Those programs include ACT preparation, mentoring, incentives, exposure to career opportunities, and much more. Our goal is for each and every student to have the necessary tools to become productive citizens.”

The registration fee is $25 for adults and $15 for students.  Registration will be available until 8:15 a.m. on race day.  To register in advance, please visit www.time2run.net. Race packet pick-up will take place on Friday, January 13 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. in the foyer of the 9th grade building at Meridian High School located at 2320 32nd Street.

The race route will start at 23rd Ave and 32nd Street and then move up 32nd Street to Parkway Boulevard and on to Grandview Avenue. Participants will then travel through the historic district on Poplar Springs Drive and conclude on 24th Avenue.  The finish line is located in the round-about at MHS which is in front of the boy’s gym and on the side of the R.D. Harris Ninth Grade Building.

“We want to invite all parents, students, staff, and community members to take part in the Third Annual MPSD Race for the Future,” said Bland.  “We truly appreciate our sponsors and those who have already committed to participate in the race this year. The community has shown great participation and support the past two years, so we hope that everyone will come out again this year to support such a worthy cause.”
